Year 7 is an opportunity for all learners to seamlessly make their transition into secondary school life. Most notably, learners combine their enthusiasm for school life whilst showing determination by trying their hardest in all lessons.
This year is the start of a new exciting adventure where students will learn new skills and discover new areas of knowledge with plenty of opportunities. The next few years will be a time for developing independence, self-reliance and a time when lifelong friendships are made.
Changing schools is a big step and can be an anxious time. We fully recognise this and know that students achieve their best when they are happy and engaged fully with their learning. Our dedicated Community teams provide outstanding support to help students with any difficulties they face and provide a professional point of contact. Homewood is a school where every student is valued whatever their age or ability and they will be offered pathways to success which will allow them to achieve their full potential.

My Experience Joining Homewood – by Jacob, Year 7
After leaving Rye Primary school, I was quite nervous and anxious starting secondary school, but I soon discovered that thanks to Homewood’s friendly and welcoming environment these worries were pushed aside. During Induction Week I settled in well and any challenges I did find, like finding my way around, my Form Tutor was very helpful.
Now, after about 6 months I feel fully adapted and part of the Homewood community and I have made friends and have a good social circle. Compared to my Primary School I feel I learn so much more and socialise too. My favourite lessons include Geography because I love learning about the world and PE because I love sports.
I recently enjoyed participating in a Geography project where we created baubles representing countries that celebrate Christmas around the world as part of an annual event involving community groups.
My First Few Terms – by Bobby, Year 7
I came from a small primary school with only 150 pupils. I felt extremely nervous about starting secondary school. I found Induction Week very useful as it helped me get used to where places were. My Form Tutor has been an amazing help as she is calm and kind and has made my first four terms so enjoyable. Unfortunately I have experienced personal family problems at the start of Year 7, but I received so much support and help from the Endeavour Community staff and teachers looked after me so well too.
I have made new friends in my classes as well seeing my Primary School and football friends at lunchtimes. I absolutely love PE and Sports at Homewood.
In my first four terms I have been fortunate to represent my Community on Remembrance Day and laying a wreath for my community. I was also chosen to decorate and place a Christmas bauble on a community Christmas tree and I also represented Year 7 in an indoor Athletics competition in Folkestone.
I can honestly say that my first year has been really enjoyable. I am growing in confidence every week and learning new, exciting things and I am proud to be a Homewood student.
