News - 25 March

Our fundraising for Red Nose Day and the DEC Ukraine Appeal began on Thursday 17th March with our amazing Sports Leaders completing their challenge of a 24 hour Sportathon. Homewood staff and students took part in a wide range of activities and invited over 100 students from Rolvenden and Tenterden Primary schools to join us for trampolining, new age kurling and handball. We also visited High Halden Primary as well! It was incredible to see so many children participating in physical activity.

Throughout the evening and night the Sports Leaders continued on with their challenge to promote Red Nose Day and fundraise as much as possible. Activities like Morris Dancing with the East Kent Morris dancers were extremely well received. Our students learnt a full routine and were able to perform it alongside one of their expert Morris dancers. After school hours we held Glow in the Dark Dodgeball competitions in the Sports Hall, glow sticks an essential of course!

Miss Kennett has praised everyone involved, “The students were incredible and represented Homewood in a way that made us so proud of them. We have almost raised £750 for the Sportathon event alone. A big well done and THANK YOU to everyone involved.”

On Red Nose Day itself, Homewood staff and students hosted a Homewood’s Got Talent Show in aid of Comic Relief and the DEC Ukraine Appeal. The talent show took place in the Sinden Theatre during lunch and 10 amazing acts performed on stage to raise money for the two charities. The various acts included amazing singers, dancers, gymnasts, poetry readers and bands ranging from Years 7-13.

Over 300 people attended and it was lovely to see such an encouraging and supportive atmosphere from the audience. The event proved so popular we hope to host the shows regularly in the future.

The talent show and cake sales were all organised and run by our Homewood Student Leadership team who did an immaculate job at ensuring it all went smoothly. Well done to everyone involved, raising a total of £1685 for both charities. We look forward to next year’s events!
