Cambridge Nationals Child Development - Level 2

 

Year 10

Year 11

Term One: Autumn

R019:

Learners are taught about key factors to consider when choosing equipment for babies and children.

 

Learners will be taught the nutritional guidelines and requirements for children from birth to five years and develop a feeding solution for a child aged four.

 

Learners will gain an understanding of postnatal provision and conditions for development. They will then learn about how to recognise, manage and prevent childhood illnesses.

Term Two: Christmas

Learners will begin coursework for R019 learning objectives 1-4. This will involve theory and practical assessments.

Learners will be taught about child safety and common childhood accidents.

 

They will continue for the rest of the term preparing for their January examination.

Term Three: Winter

R020:

Learners are taught the physical, intellectual and social developmental norms from birth to five years. They will also learn about the benefits of learning through play.

R018 - Sit an external assessment in January.

 

R020 - Learners will plan different play activities for a chosen developmental area with a chosen child. They will then carry out these activities and evaluate different play methods.

 

Term Four: Spring

Learners will begin coursework for R020 - Learning Objectives 1 and 2.

Learners will begin coursework for R020 - Learning Objectives 3 and 4.

 

Learners have an opportunity to resit their external assessment (R018).

Term Five: Summer

R018:

Learners will gain an understanding of reproduction and the roles and responsibilities of parenthood. They will also learn about antenatal care and preparation for birth.

 

Study leave

This course is assessed by two internally assessed units worth 25% each and an external exam worth 50%.

BTEC Children's Play Learning and Development Level 3

 

Year 12

Year 13

Term One: Autumn

Unit 1:

Learners will be taught about children’s development and the factors that impact at different stages.

Unit 2:

Learners will be taught about communication, literacy and numeracy skills for children aged 0- 8 years.

Term Two: Christmas

Unit 1:

Learners will be taught different theoretical perspectives and how it can be applied to an early years setting.

Unit 2:

Learners will look at different theories that support the development of communication, literacy and numeracy.

Term Three: Winter

Learners will sit their first exam in January.

 

Unit 5:

Learners will be taught legislation, policies and procedures to keep children healthy and safe in a setting.

Learners will complete their Unit 2 Pearson-Led exam in January.

 

Unit 3:

Learners will then be taught about the different types of play and the benefits to children.

Term Four: Spring

Unit 5:

Learners will start their first piece of coursework which focuses on keeping children safe. They will also identify hazards when they visit the nursery.

Unit 3:

Learners will complete their assignment looking at play and learning; this will include relevant theories and curriculum perspectives to support the introduction of play and learning in a setting.

Term Five: Summer

Unit 3:

Learners will start their work placement in this term and begin activities to support them with the completion of unit 3 coursework.

Study leave

This course is assessed by two internally assessed units and two external exams over the two years of study. Students will also complete 50 hours of work placement.
