Bug Hotels

Presentation of Bug Hotel

Recently two Year 10 students, Shannon and Amy delivered a state of the art bug hotel to Waitrose store in Tenterden. Students at Homewood, influenced by the work going on in Tenterden Transition, have been making bug hotels as part of their work on the Farm and in the School gardens to create a greener environment. Young farmers from Homewood have also built a large hotel designed to house a range of insects enabling students to observe them, as well as teaching them the importance of looking after the environment.

Once Homewood learned about Waitrose’s roof garden which the store’s partners have created, we were keen to offer our help. Students together with Miss C Craggs, Art and Design teacher, and Mrs M. Fowler, Homewood’s Community Coordinator, presented their hotel to Waitrose Manager Alice Kay. We hope it will encourage bugs from bees to butterflies. All guests are welcome at these 5 star hotels!

We hope to welcome some visits from Waitrose staff to look at our gardens in the near future too.
