History GCSE

As I am sure you would agree, your son/daughter is entering one of the most important years of their education to date. To support them fully, I would like to inform you of the interventions which will be put into place alongside my expectations that I have for all Year 11 historians.

Controlled Assessments

Students will be sitting one practice controlled assessment prior to undertaking their actual controlled assessment. As the controlled assessment is worth 25% of the final history qualification, students who fail to meet their target grade on the practice controlled assessment will be required to attend a compulsory catch up session after school on the Thursday after this has been marked (a letter or phone call will provide details of the date) where they will receive support and feedback.  Please be aware the controlled assessment is made up of 3 essays.

End of unit tests

Extra support sessions will also be given for those students who do not meet their target grade on their end of unit tests. These dates will be on Tuesdays or Thursdays in F4.

Catch up sessions

Miss Farrington and I will also be offering catch up sessions during Monday lunch times and Tuesday and Thursday after school for students who have been absent or would like some additional help with all units.

Homework

Homework for year 11 is knowledge revision and is tested weekly.  These are available on quizlet and the school website.  We expect students to be revising these for approximately 10 minutes a day, 5 times a week.

I understand that Year 11 is a challenging year and hope that these measures will support your son/daughter.   Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you have.

Kind regards,

Mrs L. Munro – Principal Teacher of History
