The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme - IBCP

Sixth Form

Higher education is critical to developing the specialised skills and learning the inner workings of your chosen subjects - Overtake the rest: begin your journey toward becoming the best of the best.

7th December 2015

Dear Parent/Guardian

I am writing to invite you and your child to take up an exciting opportunity that we are offering in school to gain qualifications from the prestigious and internationally recognised International Baccalaureate Organisation.  It is strongly recommended that if your child takes a Level 3 Vocational Course in Sixth Form that they also consider opting for the IBCP (International Baccalaureate Career Related Programme) in order to give them a broad curriculum experience as a result of which they leave us having received a rounded education with enhanced employability skills and as internationally minded and globally aware young people.

On Parents Consultation Day on Monday 4th January we will be running a series of presentations that you can attend to find out more about the Programme.  A vital part of the Consultation Day agenda for Year 11 students should be devoted to discussing option choices at Post 16 and therefore it will be a timely opportunity to learn more about the IBCP.

The presentations which should last approximately ten minutes, will take place at 1000, 1300, 1500 and 1830.  Information about their locations will be available as you sign in on the day.

Please find enclosed further information about the programme.

Yours sincerely

Mrs K Farrell

IBCP Co-ordinator

What is the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP)?

An overview

The IBCP enables students to:

  • Develop a broad range of career-related competencies and to deepen their understanding in general areas of knowledge
  • Prepare for effective participation in an ever-changing world of work
  • Foster the attributes of the learner profile allowing students to become true lifelong learners willing to consider new perspectives
  • Engage in learning that makes a positive difference to future lives
  • Become a self-confident person ready for life in the 21st century.

The aim of the IBCP is to provide students with both an academic and practical foundation to support both their further studies and specialised training, thereby ensuring their success in the workforce.  Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre offers the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) as an innovative and unique education programme for students specifically tailored for students who wish to engage in career-related learning.

The IBCP combines highly regarded and internationally recognised IB Diploma Programme courses with an approved career-related study and a unique IBCP core. Therefore, because of the flexibility of the IBCP, we have been able to create our own distinct version of this programme at Homewood School offering a variety of IB subjects as well a choice of BTECs and Applied A ‘Levels.

IBCP students engage with a challenging programme of study that genuinely interests them while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement. They are well prepared to succeed at institutions of higher learning.

Therefore, the IBCP framework is built around three interconnected elements:

  • at least two Diploma Programme courses
  • an IBCP core that includes approaches to learning, community and service, language development and a reflective project
  • an approved career-related study
