The Learning Support Department is situated on the the first floor of the Mansion House. The School provides comprehensive support for students with a Statement of Special/Additional Educational Need. Our focus is one of Inclusion, with the majority of support being delivered, in mainstream classrooms, by our team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
We have a Key Skills group in Year 7 and 8. These groups are smaller teaching groups with an intense focus on developing Literacy, Numeracy and self-confidence within a highly differentiated National Curriculum framework.
In 2010 - 2011 we anticipate running these in Year 9, 10, 11 and Key Stage 5 for small groups of students. These are timetabled in place of 1 option block and students are set practical challenges to meet, with an on-going focus on Literacy, Numeracy, Organisational skills and ICT. They are also encouraged to work effectively within a team, as well as developing independent working skills.
A range of interventions are available to support students across the school, depending on their type of need. These are not necessarily provided by the learning support department, but other support structures within the school. We do provide a range of Literacy interventions for those students at Key Stage 3 who enter the school with vulnerable literacy skills.
