Extra Curricular Opportunities - Trips & Visits

London Residential Theatre Trip

In March 2009, 32 students travelled to London to watch Zorro and Phantom of The Opera. For some of our students this was their first time staying in a hotel in London and for two children their first time going to the theatre. One of the highlights of the trip was taking part in a performing workshop with a member of the cast from Zorro.

Italy 2009

34 students endured a 16 hour coach journey to Lake Garda in Italy to take part in various workshops on their instruments with two live performances in venues on the Lake. The scenery was beautiful, the workshops challenging and the performances were amazing. The tour guide commented on how excellent our students were and well disciplined and that they would love to have them back as a model of good behaviour for other schools. – Well done to all those who attended.

Royal Military School of Music – Knellar Hall

All students who take music in Year 9 - 14 were invited to a free music festival at Knellar Hall by the Army Musicians. They were an inspiration to all musicians who watched the performance and was a great introduction to the type of music they could perform if they joined the army musicians corp. A traditional Irish and Scottish band as well as several rock bands performed original and cover pieces which were all live and performed on a variety of instruments. The highlight was the Army boys singing Dizzy Rascals song “Bonkers” and Take Thats “Patience”.

Visiting Bands

Sychlo and Inju5tice are two newly signed bands (who recently released a single in June 2010) came to perform to Year 8 in the Sinden theatre. Sychlo is a live rock band with a female rap singer producing edgy pieces which are memorable and unique. Inju5tice are a five piece boy band who certainly impressed the ladies in the audience with their vocal skills and energetic dance routines. They will both be back to perform at Homewoods first Party in the Park in aid of Water Aid in July.

Dublin 2011
