Homewood School has a history of qualification success and has been praised by Ofsted for providing a breadth and depth of course provision to enable students to move into employment, training and higher and further education. Our results at Advanced level for 2010 have been the best in the school’s history and we are proud and delighted with and for our students. We have above the National average for A grades at Advanced level which is a testament to our ability to expect and achieve high standards from our students. We have a dedicated team of managers and tutors for all KS5 students. Tutors meet with their students each day and the Management team meet with all students on a weekly basis. All students are set targets and grades that reflect their potential across the five terms that we operate at Homewood in each year. We believe that as the Senior students, those in KS5 should have an opportunity to have an input into the processes and decisions within the school. Our students are therefore involved in the interview process for new staff for example.
At Homewood we operate a Vertical Curriculum enabling many students to take their GCSE's a year early in some subjects; this then gives them the opportunity to start Advanced/Level 3 courses or to broaden their portfolio of qualifications by adding GCSE/Level 2 courses. All students continue with English and Mathematics into Year 11 thereby underpinning all study with Literacy and Numeracy. This means that within Advanced level groups there can be a mixture of Year 11, 12, 13 and 14 students who are studying at the most suitable level and the right time for them.
