The Homewood Maths Department consists of a large supportive team of specialists with a positive outlook and high expectations of the students. This positivity is rewarded with a steady growth in our students’ results year on year and we expect 2014 to be no exception.
Our GCSE Maths follows the Edexcel Linear course and students are entered at one of two levels at the end of year 11, Higher or Foundation. The Higher paper covers grades from A* to D and the Foundation paper covers from C to G. The exams are taken in May/June each year.
Our A Level students follow the Edexcel Modular course split over two years. For year 12 the AS covers Core 1, Core 2 and Statistics 1 then for Year 13 they complete the A Level with Core 3, Core 4 and Decision 1. If taking Further Maths they also include at Year 12 Further Pure 1, Statistics 2 and Mechanics 1 together with Further Pure 2, Statistics 3 and Mechanics 2 in Year 13. Students are given the option to study other modules in place of Statistics 3 or Mechanics 2 if required.
All exams are taken in May and June of each academic year.
To enable all our Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 students to obtain the most from their studies, we also offer a range of extra curriculum after school clubs and revision sessions as detailed below:
Further details of these are available from: email@example.com
We have a Chess Club on Thursday lunchtime, available for all students and staff, beginners or the more experienced who wish to play.
In addition we also have resources available for the students, including a CD containing a self marking set of exam papers, mini video clips specifically targeting key topics and past papers together with mark schemes. Our previous GCSE students have found this to be an excellent revision tool.
We expect all our students to be prepared for their Maths lessons and bring with them suitable equipment including sharp pencils, rulers and pens. For the exams we try to provide a Maths pack for each desk but would ask that each student brings along 2/3 black pens and for the Calculator exam we recommend the Casio FX-85 GT-Plus, an excellent and easily attainable scientific calculator.
The Maths Department has an open door policy and welcome any enquiries from students and parents alike.
