Construction and the built environment is offered as an options choice at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. If three years are completed it is possible to achieve a Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment at Level 1 or 2, equivalent to four GCSE’s at grade A*- C at level 2 or a D grade at Level 1. Learners will spend six hours each week in the construction department. Three hours will be practical work covering the basic skills used in carpentry, brick and block work as well as roofing. Three hours are dedicated to theory work, covering the industry as a whole, looking at sustainability, maths and science in construction and much more, all of these are essential to the understanding of the subject and industry as a whole.


The construction team have many years’ experience working with in the construction industry, working on site, as a project manager, as well as running a business in this sector. The skills and expertise available to the learners will help enrich their learning and can give them a realistic view of what this industry entails. Over the course the skills and experiences the learners will develop will help give them a true understanding of what the industry requires and the vast amount of career options available within the industry.


Learners have access to three well-equipped workshops and materials, which allows learners to develop their practical skills alongside the theory aspects of the course.  Learners will use industry related tools and equipment in lessons to give a real taste of what to expect if working in the construction industry.
