Nathan started playing for Charlton Athletic Academy two years ago. He goes training at the Sparrows Lane training ground in New Eltham three times a week and plays a match every Sunday against other professional academies. He recently went to the new Tottenham training ground which has fantastic facilities. Sometimes he does futsal tournaments which he really enjoys. Apart from benefitting from being part of the Academy he also gets 3 free tickets to the Home games of the seniors and can also be a ball boy for their matches.
Nathan's ultimate ambition is to be a professional footballer, his favourite player is Ronaldo but his role model is Jordan Cousins who came through the Academy and now plays for the seniors.
We shall watch Nathan's progress keenly.
The Annual Ashford District Cross Country event on 25th November at Godington House. Top 16 in each age group are invited to the next round held in January where they compete against other schools from the whole of Kent.
'Harry's Football Success'
I train with First Touch Football Academy each week at the Towers School in Ashford and am in their U12 team. On the 9th of October we went to Holland to play in a football tournament. We were competing with 20 other teams from across Europe. We played seven matches and were the overall winners.
This follows on from our teams earlier success in May when we went to Belgium and won the Hagueland cup.
The team: Sian, Lily, Maisey, Beth, Flo, Holly-Anne, Beth, Esme, Issy, Eliza and Gessica.
Year 7 girls competed in the Kent schools tournament where they faced stiff competition. Star player was Sian.
The team took part in the U13 netball tournament which had 40 schools participating. The girls played really well battling against the weather and competing against strong competition. Although they didn’t win any matches they did improve throughout tournament. Star player was Tabby.
Well done girls, excellent effort.
Another win for both teams.
7’s v John Wallis 7-5. Star player Eliza.
8’s v John Wallis 3-1. Star player Lily.
The year 7 a&b teams joined together to play some of the year 8 and year 7 girls at Benenden School. Homewood won 18-1 with Flo being star player.
Homewood v High Weald: a mixed team of Year 7 and Year 8 won against High Weald 10 – 0. Star player was Lily
The netball fixtures have started and both teams have had a brilliant start.....
'The year 7’s won their first ever match last night! Against Swadelands they won 7-4. Star Player was Beth.
The year 8’s were very depleted with only 3 actual year 8’s available to play- so the year 7’s helped them out and they drew 5-5. Star player was Megan.'
Year 7 football team - Alfie, Oliver, Morgan, Dominic, Alfie, Jasper, Nathan, Zac, Toby, Curtis, Harry and Ben.
Homewood v Norton Knatchbull
In the first minute Knatchbull scored a goal but Homewood kept their heads up and Oli scored. At half-time the score was still 1 - 1. Homewood dominated in the second half and it went into extra time. Nathan scored a brilliant goal so at half-time Homewood were winning 2 - 1 but Knatchbull pushed on and scored another two goals so the final score was 3 - 2 to Knatchbull.
Man of the match was Nathan who scored a wonderful goal and kept battling throughout the whole match. Well done Nathan.
'A team won 7-4 against Wye. Star player Beth (again!)- lovely feeding into the circle by Maisey, Sian and Eliza.
B team won 4-0 against Wye. Star player Gessica. Good Shooting from Elizabeth.'
This week we had a home match against King Ethelburt school and had quite a crowd of spectators as the year 7's were allowed to watch the match after they had completed the cross country. Morgan scored first - a stunning bicycle kick into the top left hand corner. Unstoppable! We scored again but before the end of the first half King Ethelburt school broke through our defence and scored. We dominated the second half with some lovely play. Scored another 6 goals and finished with a score of 8 - 2 to Honewood. Man of the match was Nathan because once he had possession, nobody could touch him or get the ball off him. He also gained a hat trick and won every tackle he got stuck into.
Homewood Year 7 football team have played and beaten Swadelands 7 - 2, Towers 11 - 1 and The North 7 - 3 and continued their winning streak this week against John Wallis.
'We were 1 - 0 down, with Harry coming off injured and being replaced by Curtis. Finally we broke through and Morgan scored levelling the match at 1 - 1 at halftime. Alfie was pulled up by the referee for moaning and then went onto score! Morgan scored again meaning the final score was 3 - 1 to us. I would give Jasper 'man of the match' because he was solid at the back making it difficult for any player to get past him. He made some great passes - well done Jasper and well done to all the Year 7 football team.'
