On Wednesday June 22nd Homewood held the fifth annual exhibition of AS and A level Graphic Design work. As always the occasion was a huge success and a fantastic opportunity for students and their families, along with school staff and other guests, to celebrate the outstanding work produced by students studying Graphic Design in year 11, 12 and 13 at Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre.
As always there was a very broad range of styles, influences, processes and media used by our students including photography, laser-cutting, photo-montage, digital manipulation, typography and illustration, just to name a few. Students responded in a personal and creative manner to a range of different themes and stimuli set by their teachers including Reaction, Edge, Power and Truth.
An exhibition of Homewood Students AS & A level Graphic Design work.
This year’s exhibition was attended by the students and their proud families, the Art Department staff along with many other staff members, several School Governors, VIP guests from the Graphic Design industry and higher education and a number of past students who are currently studying Graphic Design at various universities throughout the country. These included Sam Cox, Greg Harris, Nathan Wood and Jack Waghorn. Since leaving Homewood, Sam has been commissioned by many companies including Adidas, Playstation and Converse, alongside studying an Illustration Degree at Bristol University. Likewise, Greg Harris has excelled. In 2012 Greg founded ‘Alley-Kats’ Clothing and is currently completing a Graphic Design and Illustration internship in London, as well as working as a freelance illustrator.
On Wednesday 12th June, the art department held the second annual exhibition of A Level Graphic Design work created by the AS and A2 students of 2013. The 32 students took 2 days to set up the exhibition under the close supervision of Mr Davies (Co-ordinator of Graphic Design) and Mr Spurr in preparation for the main event. The exhibition was attended by the students and their families, the art department staff along with many other staff members, several School Governors and other VIP guests from the graphic design industry that have connections to the department through previous projects and ventures.
This was the very first exhibition of Graphics students work at Homewood. The exhibition was held in the I-total area. The event proved to be so successful that Mr Davies and Mr Spurr decided that it should become an annual event and a permanent feature on the Homewood School calendar. Although Sam Cox had actually completed his A level the previous year, he was invited to exhibit alongside the current AS and A2 students as a special guest. This tradition has also become a feature of each years show, with 1 past student being invited to exhibit in the 2013 ( Megan Motmans) and 2014 (Tom Alexander) exhibitions.
